A bag of parts for a long forgotten rake of three, unfinished Groudle Glen open sided coaches was discovered. A favourite of mine, we'd visited the Groudle Glen Railway the day before it reopened and had hoped to see the coaches, but weren't able to. The parts comprised chassis, end panels, centre frames and roofs. They were originally 4-wheel coaches, but I had several O scale bogie units that needed using-up plus, they would suit the tight track curves better. The coaches hadn't been progressed because the next job was the reversible seating. I had visions of making a jig and soldering wire into working end frames, but it never happened. Many, many years ago a trader at the East Surrey Narrow Gauge show had some for sale, but due to a low success rate in manufacture (resin casting?), they were prohibitively expensive. However, now I have experience of 3D printing, and when time permits, some seating might finally be possible, and the coaches might grace Belfield Quay. (It seems to be turning into a scenic passenger/mixed railway).
PS. The Groudle Glen Railway now has a selection of coaches with two styles of semi-solid-sided bogies coaches! (Photo source)
