Trackwork
Historical
The trackwork was all laid in the first period of construction. The track is mainly Peco SM-32 track left over from when the garden railway was lifted, with scratchbuilt pointwork.
The pointwork was inspired by a trip to the Leighton Buzzard Railway. The points at Stonehenge yard were pressed metal sleeper units with larger timber sleepers between the metal sleepers. To replicate this arrangement, points were initially |
constructed on printed circuit board sleepers with the timber sleepers inserted afterwards. The track was laid on cork underlay.
Difficulty making the crossover work electrically halted work for a while until a solution was found. However, further problems with the turntable and couplings led to a longer time in storage for the layout. |
